No, I don’t have a dog again, yet…but that’s what everyone we’ve met says to us, “I have a dog. Thanks for the SitStay card. I’ll be ordering. This is great.”
Today we met a skinny little Boston Terrier, she was all over us. Licking our face and jumping. The woman who owns her was smiling and saying, “Isn’t she sweet?” Yes, she seemed sweet. I can attest to what she tasted like, too. Licked me right in the mouth.
“We want to find a male Boston to breed her to. We found her on the road a few years ago. I don’t know anything about her except that she’s a fighter. She fights with all other dogs.”
So…I stepped up on my lowest soap box so I could speak quietly about breeding dogs to dogs you don’t know anything about. I told her she didn’t want to breed her girl to make puppies because she didn’t know anything about her ancestry, “you know, bloodline and diseases, things like that. It wouldn’t be fair to the puppies or the people who buy them from you, they just wouldn’t know what they are getting. Why not rescue a dog who has already been fixed and give him a home?”
“Oh, I didn’t even think of that stuff. We shouldn’t breed her then, huh?”
We’re having a good trip. It’s costing more than I though it would. The weather hasn’t cooperated, storms and rains, we’ve stayed in some hotels. Can’t wait for better camping weather. Heck we might toss out some stuff and sleep in the back of the truck! I’ll have to put the boy to work washing dishes soon. LOL! – Darcie
