Dear Darcy, I have had just about enough of winter. I saw you in town today, we talked for a few hours. I meant to ask you before you left me, how do you stay so positive and happy all the time? You seem to radiate joy. I want some of that! Susan
Dear Susan, I meditate. Every day. It’s medically and scientifically proven that we have a joy center in our brain and it seems to be recharged with daily meditation. Learn to meditate even if it’s only to prove me wrong. I think you’re going to like what happens to you.
It’s snowing again today. We’re supposed to get about 10 inches by tomorrow morning with wind. It’s been a beautiful white winter. Some people are wishing that spring was here…I’m going to lose a few more inches before the sun comes out! Spring will be here soon, time goes faster and faster as I get older so I’m sure it will be summer before I’m quite ready for that, too. LOL!
You have the choice within you to worry or not. Where does worry get you, anyway? More worried, right? And it’s contagious. When you worry, you teach your children to worry, your husband worries, your friends are worried about you, your job isn’t as much fun because you’re too worried to focus on it so your boss worries. Your day is already shot when you get up in the morning because you’re worried about what today will bring. You get what you pray for and what you think is your prayer. If you worry about this or that, you’re going to get more of that worrisome stuff. You worry about debt, the future or wish your past could change and even wish winter away. Your debt won’t change except to increase because you’re worrying about it, you’re praying for more debt by thinking on it. Your future is what you want it to be, if you worry, it will be filled with worry. I’m pretty sure that winter isn’t in your hands so worrying about that seems like a waste of time to me. Worry, worry, worry. Not me, thanks.
My choice is to live right now, plan for the future and not worry about what isn’t here yet, know I can’t change the past but to learn from it, and enjoy winter and see the beauty in just the way it is. I fill my head with wonderful and peaceful thoughts, with images of abundant life and good thoughts for other people, and with gratitude for everything I have. And no matter if I have just a little or a whole lot, it’s always enough.
I’ve had some very, very hard times in my life, I’ve made my share of mistakes, and I’ve had really good times, too. No where in any of those times did worry for the future change anything except to make me more worried.
I don’t take responsibility for anyone else’s negative energy, that’s a huge thing to come to understand. I treat all people with the same respect that I have learned for myself and that is what makes life so much fun for me.
Surround yourself with uplifting reading material and movies, people who are good to each other and smile often, get outside even when it’s cold. Spend some time with just yourself and the goodness inside of you. Fill your thoughts with nice stuff, good thoughts. Dream big.
Life isn’t hard when you live right now and after all, it’s all we’ve got. The past is past. We could die in the next minute and we would have taken this moment right now away from ourselves and our loved ones if we were thinking of tomorrow.
Take the lesson from your dog for peace, live in the moment and be rewarded with joy.
Off to church. Peace, Everybody. – Darcy
