We rescued a lab mix on 8/3/11 when she was 8 weeks old which we named Sasha. She looks almost identical to Frankie. The shelter said she was shepherd mix, which we questioned, but we definately knew she was lab, but now after seeing Frankie we can 99.8% say she is lab/border collie. Sasha as well has the white strip on the chest and a small piece of white on her left rear paw. Sasha is now 4 1/4 months old and weighs about 35 lbs.

Hi! We just adopted a 10 week old black lab mix. She was a rescue dog and was abandoned with her litter so we didn't know what she was mixed with. I saw the photo you posted of Frankie and it's striking how much they look alike! They have the identical ears, white on chest, and white on toe. I think we've figured out what she's mixed with.. finally! I was wondering if you had any more updated photos of Frankie you might be able to email me? Also, how much did Frankie end up weighing? Thanks again!! Kelly

Dear Kelly, Frankie is with Kent out there in the world somewhere so I don't have any new photos of her. I think she wound up around 40 pounds. She's a honey and love her ball and anybody who will throw it for her. Darcie

My husband and I just got a 12 week old lab collie mix that looks almost identical to yours! We named him Sammy. He is such a good dog, I think he will be a perfect fit for our family. I noticed that you originally posted this in 2009. I was wondering how much Frankie weighs now. We have a 30 pound restriction where we live, and the pound told us the border collie might make him a little smaller than a normal lab.... I'm not sure if that's true, so I figured I'd ask you. They allow pittbulls here, so I'm prepared to fight to keep him either way. Thank you!

Love your new adoptee. Lost a pack member back in June 09, looking forward to adopting another pack member after the holidays. Working with The Southern Siberian Rescue here in NC. The Great Spirit has opened my heart and made a place in my pack for a Senior Dog. Many people do not want a "Senior". I am a "Senior" Pack Leader. Senior dogs need someone to love and care for them too. Too many people would argue they will not live that long and have many health problems. I pray that one day the Great Spirit will touch their hearts and open their eyes, one day they will be a "Senior" and if they have no family to care for them, then who will ?

Congratulations! When my husband and I were just starting out , as soon as we got a house, we went to the humane society and brought home an 8 weeks old Border collie/lab mix we named Auggie. He turned out to be the best dog in the world, he seemed to just know what we needed from him with very little training. He helped us raise our two little girls, he was their nanny, they even took naps on him on the patio on hot summer afternoons and he was constantly by their side as they explored the neighboorhood (the police had to stop them a couple of times to gently remind them they needed a leash). He lived to be 17 and we cherished each and every year we had with him. If your little girl is anything like our loyal guy, you are in for a wonderful life together!

I have a lab border collie mix and you will Love this dog very fiercely! I couldn't be without Ripley, my 2 year old puppers.

smart as a whip, this mix is. Frankie will learn quickly and once she understands, you'll only need to show/tell her once. Good thing you've got her doing agility so she's not trying to herd everyone *grins* . I'm so happy for you!

in january, we adopted an 8 wk old puppy who was described as a "lab/border collie mix" from the local animal shelter. she and her litter mates were found discarded in the garbage bin, and brought in to the shelter. we named her HOPE because she has a hopeful future with a family who loves her. i wasn't sure if she was a lab/boder collie as she looks more like a black lab. she has about five hairs of white on her chest area. her siblings were all black and white and we thought she might not be of the same litter. anyway, your frankie confirms it is possible to have a lab/border collie mix who looks more black lab than border collie. hats off to you for rescuing a dog.
